FLUID ANALYSIS QUESTIONS AND SERVICES

QUESTIONS
What is fluid analysis?
Fluid analysis is a process by which a lubricant sample (engine oil, hydraulic fluid, gear lube, etc.) is obtained and secured inside a specialized container.  The container is shipped to a laboratory where professionals perform tests on the sample and report results as well as recommendations (change lubricant, change filter, etc.).

Why should I choose fluid analysis?  Why is it important?
The significance of lubricant analysis cannot be stressed enough.  Since you cannot 'look inside' your engines and equipment, you have no concrete way of knowing their health or the remaining service life of their lubricants.

Take an engine as an example.  Is there excessive bearing wear?  Is an abnormal amount of blow-by causing fuel dilution of the oil?  Fluid analysis allows minor issues to be detected and corrected before they transform into major catastrophic failures which are expensive and inconvenient.

Will OEC take samples for me and help me with the paperwork and analysis results?
Yes, we absolutely will if this is your preference.  Please see the 'SERVICES' section below for more details.

What company tests the samples and provides the results?
The kits OEC handles are tested by Oil Analyzers, Inc.  When your sample is sent to them, an account number is automatically created for the vehicle, boat, tractor, ATV, etc. from which the sample originated.  Analysis results can be made available to you via email, fax, postal mail, and/or online account.

What do I need to take my own lubricant sample?
You will need an analysis kit, a sample pump, and the tubing which connects to the sample pump on one end.  The analysis kit contains the sample container, paperwork, and shipping bag.
